I have like a 3 year old Emachine. When I go to boot it up, it says windows has recovered from a serious error blah blah, start in safe mode, with networking, last known config, and regular mode. I have tried them all but a blue screen comes up and says, Windows is scanning your hard disk for errors and it always freezes. Even when sometimes the blue screen doesnt come up and the windows xp logo comes up, it goes than goes right back to the beginning when the comp boots up. I tried switching hard drives but the comp still freezes, is there any way I can try and F Disk or completely wip the hard drive before booting up anything and if so how?

to fdisk, what i do is put in the windows xp cd and in the bios tell it to boot from the cd/dvd rom the windows cd is in. that should start the the fdisk process before windows boots up.

Download and run the manufacturer's harddrive diagnostics or get the ultimate boot cd; it has all the diagnostics you could ever need (ultimatebootcd.com)
