How do I setup a Vent Server?

I have an extra comp lying around and i want to setup it as a server. more specifically, i want to set it up for VoIP for gaming, eg. Ventrilo or Teamspeak.

Where would I begin? Maybe i'ts not even possible, but any info to guide me in the right direction would help. I'm obviously in the dark. :confused:

I have a HP 1Ghz chip, 512 memory, 40gig HD. It is running Windows Professional 2000.

I also have Microsoft Site Server Ent. Ed. Would this lend itself to my goal?:o

What's your network setup? You will need to configure your network to point all communications to the specific computer for the ventrilo daemon.

Also from what I know it will require a very good internet connection. I use Citrix programs and my DSL went out all the time, forcing me to go to cable, and my cable is just as bad.

Even T1 lines in my area are awful. Everytime it is windy it just shuts them down. Bandwidth, or speed, isn't always the factor to judge ISPs. There is also latency, or accuracy of packets sent to packets received, and reliability, or when they say it is always on, is it always on?

That is why dedicated lines, like T1 or T3 are so expensive eventhough cable modems are getting around to the same speed. The telco is promising you that they guarantee it will be always on outside of emergencies, and if it isn't you can get out of your contract.
