Hello, I am having an extremely irritating problem with my Oblivion. I birthed my new computer, and now Oblivion doe snot work. When I got my new comp I automatically installed Oblivion and then The Shivering Ilse expansion. Randomly the game crashes. It is usually when I am opening a door or right after a loading screen. I never had a problem with my other rig, which had a 7900gt. I am wondering if these crashes have to do with the 8800 GPU not supported in the supported video cards?

I'm very annoyed by this because Oblivion is AMAZING!!!

Arg, it just seems like I can't win with Bethesda games =[

This is the tech forum for Oblivion : http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showforum=23

It's the first place you check when a new graphics card and it's drivers start crashing your game.
In particular, you check for any patches and then read to check for any similar problems in the forum.

Hi,
I found your post and have the exact same issue. I have a 8800GTS as well. Please let me know if you found a solution, as I will if i do. What I have tried so far...

1. Reinstalled Oblivion
2. Used Oblivion with lower graphics settings
3. Reinstalled Graphics Drivers
4. Uninstalled nTunes

Thanks...

What version of the graphics driver.

Windows XP Drivers
We recommend v158.16 for GeForce 8600/8500 GPUs
We recommend v97.94 for GeForce 8800 GPUs
We recommend v93.71 for GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs

Wow, I completley forgot about this post. Well, I got Oblivio to run on a full reinstall, but I switched to vista. Vista seems to run Oblivio very well without these random crashes and such. Also, after running Orthos for quiet some time, I learned that my system was quite unstable =]. So by adding some more vcore and throttling back some fsb, it is now stable. So check your OC (if you have any) and switch to Vista is my only help. Sorry, I can't help more, but these seems to be the only solution that worked for me.

Good Luck!

I had a similar problem its either your memory (RAM) problem or a video card overheating.

I had a prob with Oblivion like that, then I bought a legit version of XP replacing the bootleg one and it works perfect...may be something like that.
