View Full Version : Gaming Resolutions - What Do You Use?

What resolutions are gamers using today? Is the standard still 1280x1024, or have the current line of video cards bumped that to 1600x1280, or even higher? I've yet to do my homework on the current cards' capabilities, but I wanted to know how gaming is today for those of you who own machines with all the bells and whistles.
I have a 19" LCD monitor which I've been very happy with. I bought it because it had tv tuner functionality built in - if not for that, I would have gone widescreen.
Is widescreen gaming now the norm?

Eh, for CS I hear more of 1024 or 800 but thats people using it for preformance boosting mainly guys lanning or CAL/Cevo/etc. I personally went from a 19"lcd regular to a 22"wide and I love the widescreen for games.
I play a 1680x1050
As for widescreen being the norm, I don't think so yet. But it is more common.

1024x768, unless the game wants to run at a lesser res.

1280x1024...it's not so much the video card but the monitor's resolution, at least how I see it.

I try to run everything at 1400x1050 which is the native resolution of my 20" LCD. I emphasize the word try because not all games support that resolution. I have had to hack most of my games in order to use that resolution. Some simply will not work at that resolution. WideScreenGamingForum.com (www.widescreengamingforum) is a good recsource for enabling certain resolutions in games.

I try and go with 1680 x 1050 as much as I can with my 22"W Acer.
I run Oblivion, Wow, Vanguard, Titan Quest, and Sin at that res...the only game I have to dumb the res down on is BF2142...it is quite the graphically intense game.
The 7950 GX2 is one of the most powerful cards I have used... if only the made a water cooler for it...I'd over clock it and it would run equal to if not better than the 765mb 8800GTX lol. Max OC with the Smart Doctor you can get the Core clock to 600 Mhz and the memory to 1.5Ghz and there are 2 of each :D

I never really paid that much attention... I'm the outdated one still on AGP and a CRT  :) -- I would *guess* a lot of them are 1024x768. I think I've tried 1280x1024 on a few. Depends on the age of the game...

I use 1360x760 for BF2. Everything else I leave normal.
And I use that resolution as I use my 32" LCD TV for gaming when no one is using it :P

My A64 system with the 6800GT plays BF2 very well at 1280x1024 with all settings maxed out 4xAA on a 19" CRT.
I run most games at that res on my gaming PC with the exception of BF2, 1600x1200 Max Settings, and EVE Online, 1600x1200.

1024x678 here most of the time, still enjoy some older games so I go with what's needed.

I've been using a Cinema Display since 2003, so it's pretty much been 1920x1200 for me, whenever my video card can cut it. Otherwise, i'd use 1600x1200 or 1280x1024 (that good old standard!)

Both oblivion and HL2 really look amazing in widescreen.

I just started re-playing HL2 again and it's set at 1024x768 with most settings on high. I'll see if I can bump it up some as I can't remember if I've played it with my "new" ATI 800 AGP yet or not... I still had my 9800 when I first got the game.
