I download and install newest version of Msoft Malic SftWare Removal Tool every month. Current ver is 1.29. I install it on all computers on my network and run it daily until the new version comes out and then repeat the process. I also remove the old version prior to downloading the new.
Yesterday I installed and ran it on my computers as described above. All computers, but this one, have WIN XP Pro with SP2 and all updates.
This one computer has WnXP Home on a Maxtor 150gig HD with aprrox 140,000files and 30 gigs of free space. Typical scan takes less than one hour. This scan lasted several hours and indicated I had 845,334 files on the disk. (Not possible) All other computers checked OK.
I run Webroot SpySweeper with all updates, Windows Defender and Mcafee Virus Scan with all updates on a daily basis. Each scan indicated appropriate file numbers. I do not have file sharing activated on any of my compuers; however, print sharing is. I use McAfee Firewall on all computers. The router is a password protected Linksys 300N with SSID not transmitted and access liist limited to network computers. Wireless compuers have Linksys N cards and I use PK2 AES incryption.
I pulled this computer off the netwrok and uninstalled 1.29. I then ran the other scans without incident. Leaving this computer off the network, I reinstalled 1.29 and ran it again without incident. Appropriate number of files displayed. Before I put this machine back on the net any suggestions, ideas or criticisms? Thanks
