I use the WinXP Extraction Wizard to unzip downloaded files. Is there any way I can speed up the extraction process? I know the amount of files have something to do with it. Do they have better extraction programs in the market?

I saw your other thread on unzipping, are you having problems unzipping? Normally takes a only second or two. Just curious, but how many files are you unzipping a day that time / seconds becomes important?

I use Zip Reader.

I often unzip downloaded folders comprising anywhere from 2-35 Megs. If I recall it used to extract faster than it is now. Most of these folders were downloaded flightsim aircraft from Simviation. If it means anything, my OS is on a different drive than the destination (unzip) drive.

Is the destination drive an internal or external? External, usb connected drive would have a slower transfer rate than an internally connected pata or sata drive I believe. A 300GB/s SATA drive with a mobo that supports that speed would offer the highest transfer rate.

As Panama Red mentions, if it's an external drive then you can expect slower times. I never download or unzip to my OS drive, just to keep it clean. Have you cleaned out your destination drive lately? Perhaps it is getting full and or needs to be defragged.

The destination is a SATA 300. I already defragged all three HDs. Also did a Registry Scan. My mobo is an Asus M2n32SLI DeLuxe (800FSB) and my processor is an AMD Athlon64 X2 AM2 PC4600+. I have 2GHz RAM, EVGA Nvidia GForce 7950GT video.

I have an USB external drive but I use it strictly for storage, that is, I don't download to the external drive. I normally download and save to Desktop and then unzip to the SATA 300 HD.
