I need another optical drive for my new PC. The only EIDE slot in the mobo is already occupied by a master and a slave. I was thinking about installing a SATA optical but I've read comments that the models are limited and that they don't work that well. Will a PCI IDE adapter be better. I have one PCI slot available plus a PCIE-1 and PCIE-4 available but the latter two I don't know if they will take IDE adapters. Any comments on this?

SATA optical drives are working great.

Go with a Lite-On.

Here is one that is good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106072

Probably what you've heard is that they are just not any faster than regular IDE drives. Heck, most still become a 2 MB cache which tells you right there they are not knocking any speed barriers other than just normal advances in technology and not taking advantage of the theoretical SATA interface.
