I am having an issue with my new computer build. When i turn it on, all my fans, cpu cooler, hdd, cd/dvd appear to come on. Then they shut down a few secounds later, stay off a few secounds, and then it try's again. It keeps on and keeps on doing this. Sometimes the on cycles seem to last a bit longer. To my knowledge it isnt posting, i hooked up speakers and heard nothing, but i honestly think the speakers arent working, so im not entirley sure. It almost seems like its hitting an obstacle of some sort forcing it down. My worst fear right now is that its a DOA Motherboard or Processor. My system specs are P965 DS3 Gigabyte Motherboard, Core 2 Duo 6600, 2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 Dual Channel RAM 2X 1GB, EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB, Enermax 430 watt psu with dual 12V rails, Seagate 500GB 7200RPM.

Here is the video. I dont have speakers working in this one i know for sure, so theres no beeps that i know of. See if you can tell anything from this video. Tell me ANY information you can provide.

First of all try an "Out of case minimum hardware build", instructions on how to do this can be found here.

i have encountered a problem like yours and its the computer power switch, yes it cycles and sometimes works on then at boot up it goes off. try to interchange reset switch with power switch. Also disconnect the power switch (so it won't keep on resetting if switch is problem).

hope this helps,

Wow, video's a little dark... but good idea on posting it.

The out-of-case is a good idea. It's a bit of work, but it eliminates a lot of variables (like the power or reset switch), etc. Then if the problem persists, we can start swapping parts out.

Could you be more specific? Do i need to plug the reset sw into the power sw part of the board? Or the switch's on the front of the case?

Also make sure the heat/sink is properly installed this can cause shut down problems as well

I decided to reset CMOS on Motherboard. It works, fired right up and went into BIOS. Id suggest to anyone to do this first thing if you have a issue such as this. Thanks for your help.

Now i have another issue. Im attempting to get XP install disk to boot. I put it in drive, turn computer on, and theres simply a screen that at the bottom that says "Boot from CD/DVD: _" The last icon is a blinking icon for like text, but keyboard dosent work on this screen, i cant do anything, cant press enter or put in any text. I have first boot device setup as CD-ROM in BIOS, followed by HDD and CD-ROM again.I have some pics and video of this. Have any clue whats going on?

What model is that Enermax PSU?

That could be your issue.

If you are using a USB keyboard swap it for a standard PS2.

hello,

maybe this can help, try to change your mouse with something that you know works 100% (ps2 or usb), or as suggested by rjfvillarosa change your keyboard with something that works 100% (ps2 or usb). Or try without a mouse. Crappy mouse and keyboards sometimes causes this from my experience. Its not bad to try this one first so you wont stress your mobo..

wbr,
