new PC help!

hello everyone.
i was brought here by a friend that recently made a new PC and had you guys help him with it.
now i have 2 problems:
one being i have ram that was given to me, corsair CM 2x1024 - 5400C4 XMS2 675mHz, and two Parallel ATA harddrives. The problems come with most of the latest MOBOs not supporting that ram, and not supporting my "old" (non SATA) HDDs =(.

Just make sure it is an ATX 2.x PSU with around 500 watts of power.

i have looked at those but they only have the FDD port and CD/DVD PATA ports.

any other suggestions or will i have to get 2 new hdd and sell my 80 gig barracuda, and 250 cav.?

I should have mentionedbut ill add to my new PC my current FDD, CD/DVD, 19" widescreen monitor, G5 mouse, G15 keyboard plantronics headset.

this machine will be primarly to play video games such at the HL family.

They have one ATA controller that can take up to two ATA devices. For example your two hard drives.

If you need more ATA controllers... you can always get a PCI ATA controller card.


Or you can just get SATA HDDs or optical drives.

alright thanks for that idea, what about if i connect 1 of my HDD to one of the PATA plugs that go to the CD/DVD? that works correct?
then i would only need 1 SATA HDD

I have also read some reviews that both those mother board r very faulty with the PATA converters or what ever it is... what i mean is what is there is what should be used...

so based on teh fact that i could possiblyt get a SATA drive what other mobos would you recommend

You don't want to buy from tirgerdirect, they have poor customer service and you will most likely have a hard time when needing to rma anything you buy.. I had used them once in the past and that was about all I could stand of them.. I had a cpu crap out on me and they would not rma it, becauase they alwasy blame the customer for it failure.. newegg is the best in the business imo..

Don't use any of the configuration options, because you're right, it'll lock you into buying everything. (This is a very dumb website, sorry).

I'd just search for each individual part separately and add it to your shopping cart. It's up to you to make sure you've got everything you need, of course.

Be careful of scammers on eBay when selling your laptop.

I have had people charge back their cards after I sent out the laptop because a scammer stole their cc information and bought the laptop with it.

I have had a laptop returned to me with a smashed LCD screen. I had to buy another LCD for about 200 bucks out of my own pocket... swap it out myself and then find another buyer. Thus decreasing my profit margin.


If you do sell on the eBay... just make sure to only accept payment through eBay then Paypal. Don't let someone message you directly and pay you directly through Paypal without going through the auction. This way eBay can help you out if it is a scammer.

I would also insure the laptop with USPS for the full value of the laptop.

And make sure you keep all records of the transaction, the tracking number, and shipment confirmation.

on the case ill probably build 1 myself. I realy love teh ZalMan fatal1ty although many people hate it, i thinks its a beautiful case.. but i cant afford it, so ill replicate it =)

Switch that CPU to the Retail version to get the heatsink/fan and 3yr warranty. The linked CPU is the OEM (chip only).

Why the little hard drive and big hard drive? Just one big one will work fine.

I would take Alaron's advice on the processor.

If you want a two hard drive setup... that is fine... one for the OS, programs, drivers & etc... the other larger one for storage.

If you go with one... you can always partition the single HDD into two partitions and do the same thing as you would with the two hard drives.

The only thing that really sticks out to me is that powersupply. Overrated, Overpriced, and there are better choices out there for the price.
