new build works, need help w/ error code.

Computer boots up, starts to initialize, then throws the following error.

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.


I double checked the SATA HDD cable to ensure that it was put on SATA_0 on the motherboard and the connecter was snug.

Only other media drive i have connected is my CDROM. Only thing I can think is the IDE cable...I have the blue one connecting to the back of the drive...should this go in the motherboard? or should I just recheck my connections?!

any help appreciated. Im very anxious and excited to get this thing up and running.


edit: more information. I have my CDROM set to Cable select and put into the IDE_1 port (I am using SATA connections for the HD...it has no jumpers or IDE connector to my knowledge)...is this correct? or should I set the CDROM drive to master/slave?

Go into your BIOS setup and disable boot from your NIC or lan.


And the blue end of the IDE cable usually plugs into the motheboard. The CS setting for your CD drive is fine.




Set your boot sequence to CD or DVD as the first device... then your HDD as the second... then save your settings... pop in the Windows OS cd... and boot from the CD drive to begin your OS installation.

now Ive gotten this fixed...but when Im installing windows...it boots up all the goodies that it has to load and then it says Loading Windows Setup or something at the bottom of the screen, then goes to blue screen and says has a problem with "pci.sys" :(


the disk looks a little ...dirty maybe....i will try to clean and get it going again....or is this more of a common problem?

shoot ! from the research ive done so far, It says that I need windows SP2 to allow me to use my PCI-E graphics card...:( but I only have a windows XP pro disc from a long time ago !

What you could do is download SP2 and then slipstream it with your orginal XP to make a XP Pro SP2 install disc. Here's 2 sites that show how to do slipstream.
