Well, I'm building my first rig ever, and I'm about to put the dvd burner in the case and I just realized there's a slot on the back of the burner where you're supposed to plug in an analog audio connector.

Questions:

1.It looks like there's a similar connector on my sound card which is an M-Audio 2496 audiophile. Is this where I'm supposed to make the connection?

2.Why did neither my sound card or dvd burner come with this cord??

3.Is this connection absolutely necessary to play cd's, dvd's and hear sound??

4.How hard is it to find one of these cables locally?

thanks in advance!

That's an old connector that's no longer used. Back in the days of early IDE you needed a seprate cable to move audio, but that's no longer the case. You shouldn't have to worry about it with a new system.
