Hey all,
I'm in the middle of building my new PC.

Quick parts summary
Asus P5b deluxe
C2d 6600
Corsair VS 2gb
evga 8800GTX

Right now I'm building it out of the case. I hope I've installed the CPU correctly (I hope I didn't smear the thermal paste... how forgiving is the process?)

Anyway, my question is what do I do when it is time to install the second stick of RAM (kinda a ways away from that, but it's good to know what you're doing ahead of time). When I do install it, do I put it in the second "Channel A" slot, or in the "Channel B" slot of the same color as the first (in this case yellow.) I've checked the motherboard manual but I can't seem to find anything.

Thanks for your help

Install the 2nd stick in the same channel as the first one.

So if slot A1 is occupied... install the 2nd stick in slot A2.

Thanks so much. Any idea why they color the ram slots in that alternating pattern?

Actually my mistake... if you want dual channel configuration... install the first stick in A1 and the 2nd in B1. Sorry about that. :D

oh OK thanks.

Update: the computer is now running outside the case. I'm watching the hardware monitor to see how the CPU temp is. My experience the last time I did this (rather, watched someone do this) was that that wasn't very accurate for some reason, and we had to wait until we got into XP and had coretemp to know what the actual temp of each core was.
