Music file sharing open up a back door to your system?

How is this done? What is the best way to make sure something like this gets blocked? Have Imesh installed (Son installed it but doesn't use it much)After uninstalling this program, is it just a straight forward deletion of residual files and how would you identify them?
EDIT: Is it legal after the shake down with Sony?

I've never heard of Imesh opening a back door to someone's system, but downloading a trojan horse could.

If you uninstall Imesh, that should take care of most everything.

If your really concerned, install a firewall and that should tell you what is going in and out of your system.
