DVD-RW Sata problems

I installed the DVD-RW my brother bought off of Newegg (LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model SHD-16S1S-05 - OEM). Well, I installed it, and it reads DVD's and audio CD's, but won't run install discs. I can't remember the error right off the top of my head right now because I'm at work, but it's something about not being able to access the library. His motherboard is a Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS Socket 939 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. Did I hook it up wrong, or am I missing something?

Does he have the appropriate drivers installed for the DVDRW and the motherboard? (Any chipset or SATA drivers...)

Also, the specific text of the error would help.
