Do you have an IDE (data) cable with more than two connectors on it?

If you replace the drive, there should be software accompanying the drive that will clone your old drive.
UBCD4Win also has a few drive cloning programs, http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm

to:rjfvillarosa:Thanks for the reply...I looked and all there is ,is 1master cable for the hd,one I used for my cd/rw,and the one for the floppy.1 primary IDE channel and a secendary IDE channel...no slave connecters on either one...do you think I could remove my cd/rw drive temporarily, long enough to copy [clone] my 2000 to the new hd,then put it back in??!!?[along with my new hd?] To: mikel..thanks! I didnt know they came with a program to transfer all my stuff! Im going to write down your link..in case I need it...thanks again...

Putting the new harddrive in place of the CD would be ideal especially as it sounds like you probably don't have room for another harddrive.
There are plenty of cloning tools around try googling some, or check the website of your new harddrive manufacturer for utilities.

It will not remove anything from the original drive, it just creates a ghost image of the contents of the original drive to the new one.

Backing up important files before you proceed would be a wise move nonetheless. One never knows.

you can add another HDD into your computer to have more disk space but if you cannot afford it ,then you can use the disk compression feature on NTFS partition to increase the space of your hard drive.
Just click on the NTFS partition, right click on partition----------->properties-----> compress drive to save disk space.
After you select this, the partition will be compressed and your overall HDD space will increase.
You can also defragment the other partitions to improve performance of your computer.
hope this helps.
