Ok, so everything installed and built but now just having a couple of configuration issues.

#1. I have no sound. I'm just using Logitech speakers plugged into the front AC97 slot. When I go to Sounds in control panel, it says I have no audio devices. Please help.

#2. I have 3 ? in my hardware device drivers. How do I figure out what they are?

#3. In my bios, it says my cpu temp is 41C. When I download and try to run coretemp my pc reboots right away. Do I have a problem?

Thanks.

1 and 2 are probably related. You need to install drivers for your soundcard (drivers should be on your motherboard cd) and your network card. Also, install chipset drivers off of the cd that came with the motherboard.

3 What kind of CPU is it? What motherboard? CoreTemp can cause abrupt crashes by itself...Mr.Ferrari recommends an alternative, but I've got to do some searching to find out what that program was called....

*EDIT*
Found something that might help: according to this post, someone with a similar issue says that an older version of CoreTemp worked fine, while the newer one caused crashing: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=179292&highlight=CoreTemp+BSOD

Also, go into My Computer => Properties =>Advanced =>Startup and recovery and disable automatic reboot on system failure.

Or maybe the problem will go away after you install the drivers from the motherboard CD.

I will install the motherboard drivers, but when I did it earlier it crashed my system and would not boot up again. I had to reinstall windows.

Wha? Ok, back up a second. What version of Windows, and can you give us a full list of the parts you're using?

I did my build a couple of weeks ago and I still have a yellow bang in the PCI devices. I uninstall, it reappears on reboot. I put in every floppy and CD that came with the unit, it can't find whatever it's looking for. It's a pain to keep dismissing the "Found New Hardware" dialog every bootup. Wish I could figure it out. Please post back if you do identify yours, maybe it will put me on the scent of a new trail.

Windows XP SP2
Asus P5B
Core 2 Duo E6600

-----

I just put in the ASUS cd and said install chipset drivers.

Install goes fine then reboots and comes to a screen like this

FreeDOS Kernel version 1.1.35W.....
C: HD1, Pri [ 1], CHS = 0-0-1, start = 0MB

Bad or missing Command Interpreter
Enter the full shell command line:
command.com /P /E:356

While it was booting I went into bios and put hard drive as boot device and system came up. I guess it was maybe trying to boot off the cd from asus. So I guess I reinstalled Windows earlier for nothing.

It happens. I know I reinstalled at least once 'cause I pulled a driver disk out of the FDD before XP had a chance to load it.

It's all part of the fun of learning ;)

So is the computer running okay now?

All the yellow question marks in Device Manager are gone now?

Sound coming out of the speakers now?

Yep, everything looks great now. No question marks and sound is cool. Thanks for the help.

I should have caught this thread easier. The motherboard driver CDs arn't boot CDs. They're ment tp be run from in Windows. I'm pretty sure the fact that the CD was still the first boot device was what messed you up there. Oh well. One of those things you need to learn the hard way once.

Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what it was. I just wish I would have posted before I re-installed windows. No biggie. It's humming along now. Need to check out usb ports and playing a dvd but that's about it.
