I installed Ubuntu 7.04 on an old Compaq Presario 700, but I cannot seem to connect to the internet. I am using a wired connection (cable internet through Comcast and their provided router). Please help! Thanks!

Here is a little better of the description of what happens. In the upper right corner, the network manager says "connected to a wired internet (or the like)." Then I click on Mozilla and the Ubuntu homepage opens, then I click on any of the links or try to open another webpage and it says "server not found." Any ideas? Thanks.

You using a proxy server? Router? You may not even have dhcp running.

Yeah, I'm using the router Comcast gave me. Can I not run it or something with that?

Can you ping websites? If not, can you ping your router?
What is the output of "ifconfig -a"?

Well, don't worry about the problem...I think I killed the laptop. Now, I press F1 to boot and it comes up and says "Operating System Not Found." Oh well, my Ubuntu was fun while it lasted.

ok, but sounds like you didn't have an IP or something.
