why wont norton allow AVG

My parents run Norton. They don't want to get rid of it.
I also download AVG and windows defender and a few other things.
Now over a week later, Norton is coming up saying it's having conflicts with some of these programs such as AVG. Anyone heard of this? What Norton doesn't want you running other maintenance programs?

a lot of antivirus programs and the like conflict with each other, they would be much better off removing norton and sticking by AVG. Norton i personally don't like and it consumes a lot of resources and why pay for something when the free is just as good if not better.

if they dont want to get rid of norton then, just disable AVG, and only load it update it and run it when you want to double check, dont have it on resident shield or actively monitoring.

I figured out how to shut of resident sheild within AVG. But how do you get it to stop actively monitoring?
Do I have to go into msconfig and shut off all the occurrences of avg? Than my mom would have to go in there when she wanted to run it? Not sure if I want her in there or she would feel comfortable. I'll continue poking

Why not remove AVG and use NAV? That would solve your problems.

I'm not sure. I would rather they keep AVG. But they don't want to get rid of Norton. They were having tons of slowness and probems so I ran a few things including AVG.

If anyone knows how to disable AVG from running and have it run manually when you run it let me know? Thanks

best way is to in AVG control centre, turn off scheduled scans, turn off resident shield., right click on the AVG icon in system tray and click on shut down AVG (or close).

click run, msconfig, click on startup tab, and disable AVGmc and AVGcc or any other AVG tasks from loading with windows.

this will not stop you running AVG manually when needed from your start menu->grisoft->avg free->avg control centre.

you can then run a test or whatever (after updating the definitions), and then right click on system tray icon and exit AVG after.

it should then not give norton much problems.

My moms PC was very slow. Removing Norton made it run like it should.

If you do run an AVG scan and it finds an infection show it to your folks and tell them that their precious Norton failed to detect it - if that doesn't convince them to remove Norton nothing will.
