I am new at this so thanks in advance for the advice. I built a desk top with a asus m/b.SATA hard drive. and a serial dvd writer. The problem is do I connect the dvd/cd writer to the sata 1 then the hard drive to sata 2 on the motherboard? Which is the set up now. Does that mean I have to set some sort of RAID in the bios. Everything in the bios shows the dvd/cd and the hard drive, but it will not load the OS(xp). Other components 1gb ram, AMD 4200 daul core chip. Thanks. Phil

Try putting the SATA HDD on the first SATA connector on the motherboard.

Do you have the CD set as the FIRST boot device in the BIOS setup?

What do you mean it does not load XP? When you stick in the CD and restart... does it even ask you to press any buttons to boot from the CD?

Yes ,I have tried the HDD in the first connector. Yes I have the CD set first in the BIOS to boot. When I restart the cd it runs but does not read and message says insert disc. I also get a meesage when I run the HDD set up cd that the cd writer is not is not assigned a drive letter. Thanks

Where did you get the OS CD from?
