Apparently the long lost (abandoned) version of windows is still on the operating table and measures are being taken to resurrect it. I doubt if M$ will allow it but it will be interesting to watch and see if it can be done. I dont know what the big difference between Longhorn and Vista is though.

Not sure I follow. Longhorn was the code name for Vista before it was renamed. Do you mean people are editing the Longhorn code into something homebrewed?

Post a link if there is a story.

Currently, Longhorn = Vista Server aka Windows Server 2008.

While it was codenamed Longhorn it had all kinds of new features. It had the WinFS filing system instead of NTFS which from what i read is the ultimate filing system for organization, as mentioned above it will be in Windows Server 2008 and some other upcoming apps from Microsoft.

However Microsoft scrapped all that due to some problems and didn't want to push back release. So, we end up with Vista which I think is Microsoft taking the easy way out instead of pushing themselves.

I messed with Vista a bit. Personally, I consider it ME 2k7...didnt find it as appealing as XP. I know some people like Vista, but I just didnt find it fit for my needs. Hopefully this is just another one of them "hurry up and finish we need to meet our dealdline" type thing and they release something good in the next year or 2.

I beta-tested Vista and then loaded the finished version, I scrapped it and went back to XP. Didn't have anything new that I needed. Now Im on Linux and I think I found a home. I can see XP fading away from my systems in the future.
