Hello,

I was attempting to set up a new Linksys WRT54GS v. 7 router to be wireless. My laptop is wireless ready, but the router could not find my wireless adapter.

After contacting Linksys support, the agent said that the reason the router could not find my adapter is becuase it is not showing up in my device manager

My device manager lists the following two devices for network adapters:

1394 Net Adapter
NVIDA nForce Networking Controller.

He said the driver for my wirless adapter may need to be re-installed, or to contact my computer's manufacturer (in this case Compaq/HP).

I don't have time to deal with that right now so I was wondering if before I do, anyone here could give me some advice on what is wrong. Thanks!

What model is the laptop? We can pull the right driver with that info and try reinstalling it.

Do you have a Yellow ! or ? in Device Manager? If there is you need to install the correct driver. If not maybe its turned off in the BIOS. You just need to enablle it. If its not detected in the BIOS. Try reseating the wireless card. It should be just easy if its a Mini PCI. Its just like reseating a SODIMM Memory. If having the same problem. Theres a problem with the Wireless Card.

Make sure there's not a switch to turn the wireless adapter on and off on front or side of the laptop. If there is, make sure it's on. Failing that, get us the model number and we'll help you re-install the driver.
