I know nothing about wi-fi. I'd like to get a laptop (hopefully a good used one) but how would I connect it to these hot spots. Is this 10/100 wireless internet? If someone could give me an overview or direct me to a newbie site that would be great. Thanks.

Dont get anything more than two years old. I suggest a ThinkPad. All the hotspots that I have set up all use 802.11b or g so your fine with just about anything these days. And if you happen to get a laptop that doesnt have good link quality, you can always get a Netgear wireless adapter card that will plug into the side of your computer. They are very powerful. I have one for my ThinkPad when I need extended range.

10/100 is obviously a wired connection. If you're looking for wireless laptops, I'd hold out for 802.11g equipped laptops, and if you stay with a recent model, that will be automatic. Truthfully, I think used laptops are a bad deal. Considering I've seen new laptops for as little as $400, I can't imagine buying a used one. Here's some places to start your shopping.
