I just upgraded to 7M DSL. MY download rate is -7168kbps. My upstream rate is 896kbps. Should my upstream rate be almost equal to the downstream rate? If not, is this upstream rate lower than what I should be getting ?

No that's about right. Most all ISPs cripple the upstream rate to fit more customers on since most people download a lot more then they upload. You'd need a business package to get equal transfer.

When I had a 1.5M DSL service , my upload speed was 1024kbps. Thats higher than what I have now. Upgrading to a higher speed does not mean upgrading to a higher upload speed. Thats crazy !! Is there any way to increase the upload speed myself ? Boosters, hardware, software etc. ? Just some information to pass on- The better the internet upload speed, the faster more effective your online gaming will be.

I have Verizon FiOS, and the downstream speed is 15mbit vs the 2mbit upstream. Their business package is 30mbit/5mbit.

i would say no. trying to uncap your modem is illegal in a sense.....

Do I need to configure Windows XP in any way, to optimize my DSL internet connection ? would any of the so called "speed boosts"offered on the internet really work to increase upload speeds ?

No they wouldn't. All most of those do is open multiple connections to a download to get it streaming a little quicker.
