I wanted to know if a 8800gts or a 2900xt will fit in a regular atx (mid-tower) case. I have a Asus mobo with the pci express x16 slot. If this is not enough information, please ask. I want to make sure before I purchase the video card.

Sorry for the double post.

Depends on the case..the 8800GTS is ~9-9.5in. in length and the 2900 is between 9-10.

Well, my case is long enough for that, but will it interfere with the things poping out of the mobo. (the round black things with silver on the top on them) Sorry, I don't know the exact name of those things. I also do understand that it takes up two spaces and I do have two spaces to give up.

You mean the capacitors? as long as they are towering behind or in front of the PCI-E slot, it shouldn't be an issue. I mean only if the motherboard is REALLY poorly designed should this be a problem.

You don't have any other PCI slots to move your components to? A link of the motherboard could help.

You might have to go with a single slot card.

I doubt the capacitor should be a issue if your current fan goes over it. You dont need to give us a link, the motherboard model is just fine.

so the huge fan on the 8800 won't go any deeper than the fan on my current card?

I can't say that for sure as I don't know what your current card is. But designers usually keep this stuff in mind.

You can try to eyeball it, just compare pictures of the 8800 with your current card.
