I logged on to my laptop a few days ago, and just as soon as most things had loaded up, it started a physical memory dump or something...It then restarted it self, and crashed. So i turned it off, left it for a bit, turned it back on again, and it went to a blue screen with some kind of error message, saying i should check my HDD for errors, or check my laptop for viruses. So i restarted it again, tried booting up in safe mode, but it done the same there (blue screen)..I tried it again in safe mode, didnt work.. i tried it in debugging mode aswell, as just a guess, but that didnt work...

as you can tell, im very much so, a noob...

also i forgot, it had been having a few errors for a few days before aswell, complaing about the BIOS and stuff, and AVG didn't pick anything up.

So if anyone has any ideas on what the hell to do...Would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Do you remember what the BIOS errors were exactly? Something about the hard drive perhaps?

No i cant remember the BIOS errors, infact one time i swear it was just a black screen, with 'BIOS ERROR' in the top left...

doubledragon5, is that in Setup as its starting up? I dont remember seeing a My Computer thingy bob.

Ya once you get to the desktop you would right click on the my computer icon and hit properties>advanced>start up and recovery>uncheck automatically restart or something like that..

I cant, like i said i cant get past that big blue screen on startup. Is there a way i can do it through the setup options? I remember it gave the option of booting up without one of the drives...?

Sorry about the long delay!

Right, as i said before it gets to the Windows Booting up screen, gets about 3/4 the way through, and then goes to a Blue Screen, with the following written at the top -

***STOP:0x0000007b (0x85dfc3b0, 0xc0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

and then a long message saying something along the lines of "If this is the first time this has happend, restart your computer. If this has happend before (which it has) remove all newly installed hardware, check your computer for viruses and stuff...But i cant get past this blue screen no matter how i boot up..Iv tried Safe mode, but it went to the blue screen..Then i saw 'debugging mode' which i dont really know what it is, but i thought it was worth a shot, but it still went to the blue screen....

Any ideas?

:)

Try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103 from the Microsoft KB.

Try inserting an XP Cd and doing a repair install. If this is successful, at least you will have eliminated any hardware issues.

Kev, would this delete stuff off my computer? I'v got stuff on there that i really need.

Iv looked at that trouble shoot page, but doesnt tell me what to do as such. It says scan it for viruses, how the hell can i if i cant even boot up! Lol..

by the way, i think this is Windows 95. Sorry to tell you so late on.

A properly executed repair install should leave you with all of your files. However, this is NOT for sure. I have seen repair installs that do end up with lost data.

If you can slave the hard drive to another computer and retrieve data first, that would be best.

Sorry my other computer went dodgy for a while, but for a different reason. Anyway...

Yeah i tried doing that once, however im trying to do this undercover from my dad. This laptop is broken in so many different ways, if he finds out its not booting he'll kill me! I booted it up with Norton (V9) and of course tried 'Rescuing' the files / folders, but since my other computer wasnt working i had no real places to try copying my hard drive to. I even tried my MP4 lol (60GB)

Thanks for your help guys, appreciated. Im going to go give Norton another crack, now that i have somewhere to copy to.

Thanks :o
