PC won't boot

So I was on my computer the night before, and everything was fine, no problems at all. I turned it off before I went to sleep. I come home from school today, and I try to turn it on, and it doesn't boot. Naturally, I check everything is plugged in and the power is there. After I realize that is not the issue, I check the LED for the power button and, suprisingly the LED for the power button was lit up, but the fans weren't spinning up, the HD wasn't starting and my video card wasn't spinning up either. I think the mobo is recieveing power because there is a little light on that shows it has power, plus the power led lights up. It's like my computer is in limbo, not on, but not off. I cleared cmos, took out battery, tried out of case boot, and tried the faulty component thing(where you take out one thing at a time) nothing works. I think I maye have messed up the pins for the CPU socket the night before. It's been 8 months since I built this rig, so I decided it may be time for a re-application of the thermal grease. As I pulled the cpu out of the socket, I accidentally touched the cpu bed. Today, I checked it out, and one of the pins was bent(or I think, I can't really tell.) My point is that if I bent the pin wouldn't the CPU have not booted yesterday? Any help would be greatly appreciated.(The pin "bending" happened yesterday.)

Those "pins" aren't really pins but more like small hooks, similar to velcro. I snagged one too a while back trying to wipe off some excess thermal paste. Had to pull the mobo and carefully realign the "bent pin" with a large darning needle while holding the mobo under a magnifying light! Makes yer butt pucker when you hit the power button for the first time after that surgery. I'd try a different power supply if I were you before I pulled the cpu again. Mine didn't boot with the misaligned "pins".

What is the brand and model of the PSU you have? It sounds like a PSU issue.

Uh..I have some no name PSU that came with the case.(It's a 400w) I know that that's bad but it's been working for almost 8 months, I don't see why it would decide to stop working when the computer was truned of..

I have a DEER PSU, and that is on the bad list, I just checked.

DEER is really really bad news. When they die... they usually take out other parts with it.

Replace that PSU ASAP.

Well the computer was off...so I'm hoping it took nothing else with it. I'll try and replace the PSU.

The 430 watt one should be more than you need.

This should be a lesson for all of us, never SKIMP on the PSU you buy!

Yep... you are very lucky the DEER did not kill anything. There are so many stories about DEER PSUs.
