HD camcorder buying guides

So im looking for a camcorder.. I think I want HD but there are lots of diffrent factors in buying these things and it is a big investment (looking to spend around a 1000, possibly higher) on it. Basically I'm using it for paintball and snowboarding, along with all the other crazy things I do with my friends. Well considering how much money I'm going to be spending I wanted to do alot of research before hand. When I google "camcorder buying guide" or "HD camcorder faq" or something along those line, I get a bunch of outdated articles from as far as 5 years back. Anyone have a particular knowledge in this area or know of where I can do some reading? I'll keep looking.

I actuallly considered a hard drive based camcorder for a while, but one thing kept coming up. Once the drive is full that's it, You have to move the video off to a computer before you can record more. That might not be an issue for you, but something to keep in mind. I've switched over to looking at flash card recorders.

Is the question re: hard disk camcorders or hi def camcorders?

yeah I thought the same thing about the hard drive but I will have a laptop near me pretty much everytime I use it so I can offload it if I have to.

I was going to get the Sony HDR-SR1, which I guess was exactly what I was looking for and was sony's first camcorder that was High Def and had a hard drive, but I just found out they are releasing 3 new models (HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7, and HDR-SR8) with larger hard drives and better still photo capabilities, so Ill wait it out a little bit and probably go for the SR7
