I bought a dvd writer LG GSA-H44N recently.
The software provided in it includes PowerDVD.

Whenever I played a DVD using PowerDVD, it prompts me to upgrade to enjoy 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. I was wondering if I did not upgrade, that means I will not be given this 5.1 surround even the DVD supports it, am I right?

The software (PowerDVD) also has got an configuration option that can be switched to a 6 channel audio. I was confused by the upgrade and this configuration.

Can anyone enlighten me about this upgrade and the setting configuration? What other software can I make use of to enjoy 5.1 surround sound?

As sometimes I was prompted to change the DVD region setting, the number of changes allowed keep reducing. I am afraid that it will run out soon as it has got 3 left. Previously, a PCMecher told me to use a software (FreeDVD) to remove the region, make it region free. However, I am not able to use this software as it is "read-only" on the DVD.

*Sorry I think this should be in the Multimedia section?*

Do you have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system?

What software can I use then?

EDIT:
I've seen someone recommending AVS DVD PLAYER. I will try this software out since it says it do support 5.1 surround channels for free.

What about something that can strip off the DVD region on the disc? FreeDVD software cannot do it as it's on the disc.
