the AdWatch feature is available in the paid for version only, the service I am referring to runs constantly in the free version as well. In perusing the Lavasoft forums this seems to be a common complaint among new users of AdAware 2007.

Yes, there seems to be a ton of complaints about it. I take it you have seen Lavasoft's response?::

I cannot go into details of the inner workings of the software, but the service adds flexibility that the new engine needs in order to cope with the more advanced types of malware that are emerging.

We realize that you don't want the program to hog unnecessary resources and we have tried to keep the consumption to a minimum, without compromising when it comes to performance.

I was wondering what it was doing on my desktop (to the recycle bin with it!).

Nothing but timeouts since I installed the new version. I just removed the process in task manager and no more probs.
