messenger spam that isnt????

Hi all,

I have had 2 friends in the last 2 days ask me about what sounds to me to be messenger spam. The thing is they both have SP2 so it cant be. They both get red crosses which take them to spy crusher. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this. I really want to help them get rid of this.

New programs showing up on your desktop that take you elsewhere for a removal program smacks of a malware infection. Read the sticky at the beginning of this category and follow all of the malware removal instructions before posting a hijackthis log.

I found the problem. It turns out they both had the smitfraud adware on their computers. I got them to download the ashampoo anti spyware and it cleared it right up. I got the hint from this post
