Have you tried Spybot and AdAware?

Doesn't spybot ask you to buy the software? it did when I tried to download it.

All has a free verion, post if you can't find it, try at downloads.com-then update.
Spybot, AdAware, AVG Antispyware, SuperAntispyware, asquared.
You may want to install Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, Windows Defender to help keep it out in the fist place.

Spybot Search & Destroy is always free and you can get it here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

If you Googled Spybot and clicked on a sponsored link, you probably got taken to a site for something that isn't Spybot S & D. Check the name of the program before you download. If it is something like SpywareBot and not Spybot Search & Destroy, they are trying to trick you into thinking you are getting the real thing and to buy a program that isn't much good and won't even clean what it can unless you buy it.

This has been happening for years now--rogue programs create several websites with the terms Spybot and Search & Destroy so that they will show up in Google results. For an objective list of rogue programs to avoid, see the list at Spywarewarrior: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Be very careful were you download from. Some applications which claim to be for spyware removal have been found to be spyware themselves or use deceptive practices to get you to buy their premium version. Often times these unethical distributors use deceptively similar names to those of legit spyware removal applications. Spybot Search and Destroy is legit; some similar sounding ones are not.

Again, check every anti-spyware program you are thinking about downoloading at spywarewarrior.com before doing so. Just select the "rogue anti-spyware applications" section to be sure it is legit.

Just wondering about all the warnings. Is downloads.com know for having really malicious program downloads? (some I know are just duds)

You can get all of the free programs mentioned from download.com. They are all from reputable sources.

Just type in the searchbar at their site and then pull down to the results list to find the free download.

If you are using AVG Anti-Virus, you can try teaming it up with AVG Spyware. It's been beneficial to my PC. Please try it.

I can recommend also PCClearPlus2007 the latest technology that combines anti-virus, anti-spyware and more.

I think geopoet means AVG anti-spyware.

When downloading AS programs it is a good idea to pay attention to exact wording. Using a name similar to a known reputable program is a very common ruse used by disreputable vendors.

Odd, couldn't find anything on that; apart from being lead to a bunch of dodgy illegal sites. However, it sounds to much like a HitmanPro rip-off in my book, which had more issues than it solved - and I won't mention the trying to get money for freeware...

Yeah, this link says prevx 1 still has it listed as ¨undetermined¨ as to whether it is malware or not.

I would not advise this pcclearplus2007 until more info is available.
