I recently build my first PC. My power supply only came with two SATA power connections, so I installed my hard drive and DVD-RW drive. Everything was working great. Then I went to a computer supply store and bought a four-pin Molex-to-SATA power converter cable to hook up my DVD-ROM drive. I was able to get both drives recognized by Windows, but the DVD-RW drive wouldn't read discs and the DVD-Rom drive would. I thought I did something wrong, so I tried to go back to my original setup but got the same problem.
Now the DVD-RW drive is recognized by the CMOS and by Windows, but when I put discs in it won't read them. I swapped it out for the DVD-ROM drive and it works perfectly. Do you have any idea of what the problem could be?
Are there any settings in the BIOS I have to change? The BIOS lists them as IDE connections. I'm a PC-building novice, so is this what they're supposed to be?
