Good afternoon/morning/evening.

I'm pretty new to the forums but have been lurking for a while. I see a lot of posts about gaming rigs and the information and options for different set ups is really incredible. I have also took notice about what are the good brands to buy and such. I am aware the the Intel 6600 is in the lead so far right now but I have and always will be an AMD supporter. I am sure some of you know what I mean.

Anyways, I will greatly appreciate all your input!

The following items are the core components, many of which were taken from previous posts. I am not sure if my two existing hard drives are SATA or not so I may/may not need to buy new ones. Also, not too sure on what case to get ($100 or less unless the case is the second coming of Christ)

Asus SLi Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131013

Evga 8800gts 320mb: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130082

Corsair 520 Watt PSU: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817139001

AMD 64 X2 5600: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103771

G Skill 2(1*2GB) Ram: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231098

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Buying from them even though their product is not competitive is probably not the best way to support them. By not buying from them you are saying "You know I love ya AMD, but you gotta step it up a notch". If your really loyal to AMD, wait until they have something more competitive with the Core 2 duos.

I understand what you mean, but keep in mind, AMD is a company just like intel, it will do whatever is best for it to make money. Its not gonna support YOU during your rainy days ;).

The list looks good, check out the Coolermaster Centurion 5 for a quality budget case. Otherwise its all a personal choice.

Thank you all so far for your replies. I understand about the AMD/Intel comparison and maybe I should just go with intel. Mr. Ferrari, I like the case you mentioned a lot. Great price and all the product reviews were positive. BeepBeep2, I took a look at those links, the super talent memory is quite a bit more expensive than the Gskill and I can't seem to find the advantage choosing Super Talent over Gskill

Is there anything else I should be looking for?

hmm, the super talent is $77.99(same 5-5-5-15) and $119(4-4-3-8 timings), g skill(5-5-5-15) is $80.99

the mobo i have is a nice $120 590 Sli: $89.99 after rebate, you link a 570 sli $140.

with a mobo that is better and $50 cheaper+ even the $119 memory means you still save $15

it REALLY is a steal....

Another question

I have cd-rw and a dvd-rw drives that I purchased some years ago as well as two hard drives so I'm wondering since the intel P5B only supports one IDE, am I going to have a problem? I am quite noobish when it comes to this and I have no idea if they would be at all compatible with my new setup. Thanks

Yeah I think you can only have 2 IDE devices per IDE channel. You'l probably want to get new SATA hard drives.
