New Pc

Hi, I just built a PC for the first time. But i seem to be javing a problem. The computer boots up fine, and everything is being read. After the BIOS screen, it goes black with a blinking white underscore on the top left.

Computer specs
XFX 8600GT videocard (new)
Gigabyte SLI S4 motherboard (new)
Gskill 2g 2piece ram (new)
AMD 5600+ 2.8 Dual Core (new)
DVD rom (old)
450WATT PSU (old)
Maxtor 80g HD (old with OS installed)

Anyone help me out?:(

Enter the bios, set the disc drive as the first boot device, restart, put ur xp/vista disc in, install windows

What OS is on the old Maxtor?

What kind of computer did the Maxtor come out of?

Is the Maxtor a IDE or SATA hard drive?

What brand is the power supply?

What kind of power supply is it? ATX or ATX 2.0? Does it have a 20 or 24 pin motherboard connector?

The maxtor is an IDE, PSU unknwon brnd, 20pin connector, Maxtor came out of a AMD athlon 1.7. BIOS wont boot from disk, i tried formating the HD, and resetting the CMOS on the new mobo. Didnt work. It seems to have conflicting BIOS, theres 2, one comes up, sometimes its alljumbled, then the next one comes up and i can run setup.


Maxtor had windows XP.
