XP refuses to boot normally just hanging on the 'Windows is loading' screen. Tried System Restore but it fails. Even tried the boot logging from this thread: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=183615 . That too fails. Did notice that AVG was failing to load so disabled both the program and service via MSCONFIG: still no joy.
The situation is as follows;
The machine had two gigs worth of 'junk' files deleted: temp and IE cache. Then an update for an accounting program was installed, this failed to finish so a system restart was carried out, it was after that restart that the system failed to boot.
This machine is a friend of mine and he urgently needs it working. It was originally XP Home which was upgraded to XP Pro and had a new account with a VPN installed for a temporary accounting job he had - no longer needed.
I do have an old Acronis Image of the machine when under XP Home, but really don't want to use it unless I have to.
Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.
