Outlook 2003 turning apostrophes (') into squares

when sending emails to other people, im finding that when using apostrophes they are turning into squares at the receiving end.

any ideas?

not sure if its word 2003 that is the problem or outlook?

Start a new mail...In the upper left hand corner it should show what "font" you are using...If you are using a non standard font it could be the problem.

its using the default font.

its using word as the email editor, when that is switched off the problem stops.

in the sent items it looks fine, its just at the other end that you see the apostrophe as a square.
