Rig Suggestions

I'm almost all set with a rig that i am planning to order in about 1 week. I need everything to be perfect. Any suggestions or changes that need to be made would be much appreciated. All parts are from newegg. Any suggestions would be preferably from their.

Case: Antec 900

CPU: Intel Q6700 2.66 (This is the CPU that comes out on July 22)

CPU Cooler: Ultra Clilltec

Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF67-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i LT SLI ATX

GPU: MSI Geforce 8800 Ultra

PSU: OCZ GameXtreme 850W

RAM: Wintec AMPX 2GB DDR2 1000

Hard Drive 1: Seagate Barracuda 400GB Drive

Hard Drive 2: Western Digital Raptor 74GB

Disc Reader: Lite On multi disc Reader (not the name just dont wanna have to type all of it out)

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (Crysis in it's DX10 Glory)

Fans: 2* AreoCool Turbine 120 MM

All adds up to 2,400 dollars, which i think is a great price for all that performance!

Looks pretty solid, but you are paying ALOT of money for small preformence gains.

The 8800 Ultra is not worth the extra price over the 8800 GTX. Get a GTX, it will run anything you throw at it.

If you are planning on SLi, you may want to reconsider. With the speed video cards are constantly changing, and just computers in general, it makes alot more sense to buy a new generation card then another of a old card you have.

Also, the raptor isn't going to give you much for its price either. The Seagate 7200.10 are only a hair slower, yet are much more cost effective.

Stick with Corsair for RAM.

For all the money you could save doing those things, you could invest in a nice moniter and really make your build shine. :)

Well the Ultra is only 600 which is basically a GTX. I will prlly get rid of the raptor. And the ram is only 100 bucks and has great reviews! so a much better deal. I feel i will skip the next gen of cards, go sli, then get the gen after. If corsair is better, what is there best ram for 130 or under (overclocks well).

Oh yeah, and ask yourself: How often do you honestly think you will be utilizing quad core? I mean, if you plan on talking on MSN, video editing, image rendering, running an antivirus scan and using a desktop weather monitor all at he same time, then go nuts. But somehow I doubt it.

I agree with others on SLI, if you dont need or cant afford today, then save some cash and just upgrade tomorrow. SLI is not a cost effective upgrade path because you are upgrading with old technology. Just buy a new card when the need arrises.

Also, Nvidia recommends 900-1200w psu's for SLI Ultras.

They could be padding it but it is a gamble you are takiing using what they consider a small psu. It will be a very expensive video upgrade if you have to throw in a bigger PSU when you go SLI.
