Hello, I put together my first build today. I followed directions and took care to avoid static and be gentle with the components.
I have everything together and connected in the case right now, a monitor and keyboard hooked up, and the computer plugged into a surge protector. When I turn the power supply on, a little blue light underneath the motherboard goes on, indicating it is in "Sleep/Soft-Off" mode. When I press the power button on the case, nothing happens. No activity on my monitor, no fans running - including on the power supply.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Also, can you list your system specs?

I pulled everything out of the case and set it up just like that, and I'm still getting the same problem. I'm starting to freak out a bit here.

Do you have both power connectors plugged into the motherboard?

You mean the 24 pin and the 8 pin? Yeah.
I went out and bought a new power supply to see if that was the problem, but I'm still getting the same reaction from the system. So I guess it's my motherboard, CPU, or RAM then, correct? Any way for me to tell which it is without substituting in known working parts? I don't just have components laying around. I think I may end up sending all three back to newegg for replacements.

just curious, which power supply did you get.

Looking at your parts list I would suspect the RAM before the motherboard and the CPU.
Try starting the system without the RAM installed and see if you get any BIOS beeps indicating a memory problem. You need the PC case speaker hooked up for this.

Did you try it with one stick of ram, then the other, that might answer your ram question.
