I opened up my old Compaq Presario 2227us the other day to see how hard it would be to get to the processor. I found it doable, and now I am toying with the idea of swapping out the 1.3 GHz Celeron M in there for a higher Pentium M. The product manual I downloaded from HP shows that there is an upgrade path from the Celeron M I have in there to various other Celeron and Pentium M processors with 400 MHz FSBs.

Now there isn't a wealth of information about the system board, but I believe it has a Socket M in it. Now there are Socket M Core 2 Duo's, granted their FSBs run at 800 MHz and higher...

From my (somewhat limited) understanding, the motherboard must support the processor's FSB speed. Is this correct? I couldn't throw a C2D in a mobo made for processors with 400 MHz FSBs, then... Also, does anyone happen to know if the mobo in the Presario 2227 supports FSB speeds other than 400, perhaps 533? If so I could upgrade to a Yonah core Celeron M.

Thanks,
Justin

find out what motherboard it has with sisoft sandra http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/. then post that and we should be able to find out. or you could always ask hp tech support

Any ideas?

My best guess is that your limited to 400 FSB CPUs which means no dual core or higher bus speed CPUs. CPUs that may be supported are ones that are probably out of production. And probably have issues with the BIOS, the latest is from 2005.

Now here is a question. The Sandra output says that the maximum memory supported by my laptop is 2gb, while the manual from HP says its 1gb. Which should I believe? How does Sandra go about determining how much memory a system board can handle?
