i have currently 2 IDE optical drives, CD/RW master and DVD/DVD-RW slave, the master went out and i was wondering if i could use a SATA powered drive in place of the master and if so how ? Can both IDE and SATA be used together?

But if your motherboard supports SATA HDDs and has open ports you can connect a SATA HDD to one of the ports and then go into the BIOS to set the SATA HDD as the boot drive so that Windows will boot from it.Can both IDE and SATA be used together?Yes.
