Having problems with a new build? Try this. (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=12753)
Did you install the standoffs in the motherboard mounting tray before you installed the motherboard?

Yes, without the standoffs the motherboard will short with the case. Which is why we always recommend the out of case build that Cricket linked to. I think most of the regulars here do this themselves before putting everything in the case on their own builds.
Solving the computer problem is usually a process of elimination. Try it out of the case to eliminate a short as the cause. A stray standoff would cause a short as well.

So the motherboard is out of the case and only the bare minimum parts are assembled?
Please list the parts being used in the computer. List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply.
When you boot up you should see something on the monitor. If you don't, something is wrong.
