Hey, I'm planning on building a new PC for my parents. Here is what key points I need the PC to do.
- It will be for buisness.
- They would like to do some gaming (not rediculas like SLI or any of that junk)
- MOST IMPORTANT I need it to last like being upgradible down the years. So good mobo I guess.
The budget is 1,000 give or take. Any reccomended parts would be great! Thanks guys! This will be my second build and Im excited to build it!

Depending on what kind of programs that will be used in their business use will help refine the parts selection.
For a basic system would start with an Asus P5B and a Core2Duo E4300 with 2 gigs of VS DDR2 667 ram.
For a video card and want DX10, something from the Nvidia 8400 or 8600 series. Or for more budget minded, the 7000 series Nvidea like an 7600GS or ATI X1600 or X1300 series.
From here we can build up to suit the needs of the system.

Since it's a basic office PC with some gaming, would start with the parts mentioned, go with a 8600 series card/Seagate 7200.10 SATA drive(160g should be big enough), a retail Lite-On SATA DVD burner, Corsair 520 PSU, case to the taste of the parents. check to see if they want/need a memory card reader.

Can we switch the PSU with something else? They are out of stock and I would like to order as soon as possible. So will eveything work once I put it together? Any way to save on the software? The office is killing him. I dont want to do OEM incase something goes wrong.

Looks like the PSU is in stock now. Looks like the case is out of stock.
Why not OEM for the OS? It's no different than Retail, less a fancy box and telephone support (free for a year I think?). Also same for Office. Looks like the OEM version is much cheaper. And unless they need the 2007 version, you can probably get 2003 for a little cheaper.

Because if I get an OEM version then I only get one liceanse. If something should fail on the comp or I change a part the OEM won't recognize it anymore and Ill need to get another windows.
I do have a retail verson of Vista Home Premium. Can I install that on more than one comp?

Switch the OS and Office to oem.. The support on the retail is 90days.. The care one I hear isn't worth it I would scrap that as well.. You can get all the support you need here free rather than paying MS for it...

You only get one license with the retail as well.. It doesn't matter if its oem or retail. If you do a major upgrade on your pc you have to reactivate it with ms, which doen't cost you anything...
