how to test if a dvd/cd drives laser is working properly

I have had some problems with my dvd and cd drives, i have tried multiple times to find drivers for them have used a program on www.driverguide.com dont know 3which one to update.

So my friend mentioned maybe there is something wrong with the laser.

Its not that old, is there a program i can use to test the laser is working properly?

What are you trying to do with the drives? IE: just play music / video? Burn disks? etc...

What are your system specs?

Some issues can be resolved with a Firmware update for DVDRW's.

At the moment im just happy with being able to read whatever is on the disk, im not fussy right now. Will post the specs soon. I think i have already done that though.

You don't need to install drivers for optical drives. Exactly what problems are you experiencing?
