This will be a gaming computer. I already have a monitor/keyboard/mouse. Please give any suggestions.

I will not be overclocking. This will mainly be used for gaming. I want Vista, and am not upgrading from a prior OS so I cannot get an upgrade disk. Which version of Vista is recommended? Should I get 2 more gigs of ram? It is not much more expensive, it there will be a significant difference. Like I said I will only really be doing gaming, surfing the internet and maybe some work processing every once in a blue moon. If I am missing anything or if something needs to be tweaked, please let me know. Nothing is really set in stone.

That looks like a solid list to me. Stick with the 32bit Vista Home Premium. 2GB of RAM is sufficient for gaming. You could get more if you want, but that is the sweet spot right now.

You may want to wait a few days for the new Intel chips to come out and the prices to drop across the board. It technically was today but these things take a bit of time. You could then bump the CPU up a notch or two for the same(ish) price. :)

Alright, thanks Alaron, that version of Vista is the one I was leaning towards. How much of a difference will there be between the E6600 and the E6700? If the 6700 drops some I might just grab that if the price if right.

I agree with Lefty, but I just found the new E6750 over at MWave, post-drop: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=BA24051&RSKU=BA24051 Only $195 for the 2.66Ghz, Dual Core, 4MB cache and the new 1333FSB. That would make a fine addition to your P35 board.

So I finally took the plunge and ordered the P5K/E6750 combination (that price drop was AWESOME). :D My question is, with both of those running at 1333FSB, is DDR2 667 ram fast enough, or should one step up to the 800 MHz ram?

I understand the notion behind the FSB being "quad-pumped" and the ram being "double-pumped"...ie., running at one quarter of the 1333FSB and one half of the 667 ram, both being equal to 333. Is it ideal to have them matched, or is it better to have the ram with "overhead" that I've seen people speak of here? (I don't plan on OC'ing)
