First of all my PC's specs are:

CPU: AMD|A64 X2 4200+ AM2 2x512K
Memory: 1Gx2|CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400 R
Video Card: EVGA GF 7900GT
HD: Seagate 300 GB
Motherboard:GIGA GA-M55SLI-S4 NF4 SLI AM2 Motherboard
Power Supply: ANTEC TP2-550 EPS12V
OS: XP Professional

Ok so here is my problem. On about 30% of the programs I install they crash my PC at some point during the installation. Sometimes I have to retry several times to get it to actually install. Sometimes it will always crash while installing a particular file. Other times it will be around the same place but on a random file. I built this computer about a year ago and have had the problem ever since. I have asked around a few places but haven't found a solution yet. I have reformatted the computer several times and it does not fix the problem. It is mainly been just an annoyance. However I have a few games and programs that I want to install but will not work at all no matter how many times I try them. I have already tried making sure that absolutely nothing else is running during installation and that does not work either.

If you guys have any ideas or solutions I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks:)

Have you tried to check if your HDD is faulty or even your Optical Drive. Ran HDD Diagnostics and try another Optical Drive if available. Also try reseating Drive Data/Power Cables. Just to clarify how about when you install your OS are you having problems? Good luck.

Well I tried installing it (a particular game I am trying to get working) on a different HD and that did not work either. I tried Error-checking the disk as well as using Seagate Tools to check the drive for problems and neither came up with anything. I didnt have any trouble at all installing my OS.

Any more ideas? Thanks for the help.

Does the problem only happen when using the Windows Installer?
If that's the case then you could try to update or reinstall it.

Well I got the program to install in Safe Mode. Im not sure if that will work for all of them but hopefully it will. I will also try what you said Ghost2003.

Thanks guys.
