My computer currently has no audio because the driver isn't there, just re installed windows. Its a dell xps gen 2 but when I go to device manager and look for the hardware name to get the driver online, it doesn't even show that. It just says multimedia audio controller - manufacturer unknown. Now i went to dell.com to find the driver but they only have the 2007 version when i searched under my computer. Is there a way to find out what audio hardware I have so i can get it from the company's webpage or something? thanks.

Find the Service Tag on your dell and look it up on Dell's website.

What often happens is that XP will install generic drivers for your mobo hardware and the devices connected to it. Get the driver disk out and load the dell drivers for all your hardware and xp will correctly identify the soundcard and install the drivers for it.
