i acquired a pcm-9373 SBC awhile back that i haven't used much (http://www.emacinc.com/sbc_pc_compatible/pcm_9373.htm)

i would like to build a media extender, but i am guessing what i want to do is not possible. i would like to do something similar to the xbox360 media extender. i have a vista ultimate system (doesn't have a tuner yet, but it will soon), but it has to be running vista or xp for the work that i do. i also have a twonkvision server running on clarkconnect with a ton of hard drive space.

the vista computer only runs during the day and i will never record anything at a time when it would be off, so the tuner is going in it, mainly because its the only system that can handle it. i use my mac laptop to watch movies and music on, but i would like to be able to schedule shows to record from the pcm-9373 once i actually get the tuner.

if this doesn't make sense, i can try to explain it better, but i am basically trying to just setup something like all the media extenders out there already designed for MCE without purchasing the hardware. otherwise i really have no use for this SBC

thanks

As far as I know the only way to build a media extender would involve using myth tv and linux, and even it wouldn't work like a normal media center extender for Windows MCE. As far as I know it would only be able to play regular video and audio files stored on your PC.

I'm afraid if you want a media center extender that has the full capabilities that an xbox 360 has then you need to buy it.

Some options:
http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Dual-Band-Wireless-Extender-WMCE54AG/dp/B0002ZUZVW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-2677589-2387628?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1186583871&sr=1-2
http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DSM-320-Wireless-Player-802-11g/dp/B0001WXTF0/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-2677589-2387628?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1186583871&sr=1-1

they are pretty pricey, and I can't vouch for their quality, but I do know the xbox360 media center extender works awesome, I've used it for about a year now.

jimmy,

thanks, thats what i was figuring. right now i am running TonkyMedia on my server, and i have Geexbox running on the pcm-9373. it works great for all the video stuff, but i was looking to do something with the traditional mce interface. with the 360's coming down in price now, i may just grab one of those. just got to save my money, i suppose

thanks
