My problem is this, when I turn on my computer I have sound, it plays the whole windows intro song thing. I can bring up a game and start playing and it still has sound, but once the game is up and running its only a matter of time before it cuts out and I lose sound, to get it back I have to restart the computer. But when I do that windows plays the sound file for when it gets shut off.

If I start my computer and play a video, the sound will be there for a good time before it shuts off and I can sometimes get it back by partially rewinding the movie (by clicking the video bar).

I ran Everest and did a search for the driver '82801DB AC97' but I don't know if I installed it correctly. I've had this problem for a while and can't seem to get around it, any help is appreciated. I'd be happy to give more details if wanted.

The only suggestion I can think of is make sure you have the most up-to-date working drivers for the sound. Sounds like you have a pre-built desktop, if so, could you give me the make and model? (i.e. dell dimension 3000, et c.)

And is the sound built into the motherboard, or do you have a seperate sound card?
