I finally hooked up my 17' LCD to be a secondary display to my laptop for when I am designing and everything works great except for one thing... COLOR.
How can I get them to be the same on both monitors? It appears that the colors on the LCD is much more brighter and of a higher contrast than on my laptop. Is there a way to make them the same?
Second problem, I am actually noticing flickering lines going down the LCD monitor, never saw them when this was connected to my desktop.

The color and contrast you should be able to adjust in the monitors menu.
I'm not sure what would cause the flicker. I would make sure it's connected good.

Thanks, I'll check the wiring.
Are there any software out there that can help me calibrate?

first double check the lcd on a dif computer and see if it has the lines then also or not. If so, bad LCD, if not then the laptop may have issues with it's external VGA port, might see if a different monitor shows the lines also.
and yes the brightness and all that should can be adjusted using the buttons on the monitor itself.

I just cant seem to get the colors to look the same... Is there any way to export the color profile on my LCD and then have my laptop screen use that? As a graphic designer, this is killing me.

Depending on the video chipset of the laptop, there may be some color adjustments and color management tools in the Display properties/Settings/Advanced. My old 9600 card has ATI's Color adjustment and Color management where I could set up a specific Color Profile for a monitor and use it for an other if needed.

I believe the card it shipped with from HP was a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200.
