runtime error

I know this is something I am supposed to know, but have been fighting it for two days now.

computer is a dell insperon 6000, two yr old with w xp pro.
at windows boot up it displays this error with missing file as :

windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\lxdbtime.dll

I know that this is from a lenex printer that was installed by another person and then deleted by the owner of the computer. most likely the improper way.

there was no recover cd made when system was new, so it cant be done now with this error.

I have went through the system and the regestery and removed any referance for the lenx printer but the error remains.
I may have missed something that still needs to be removed, but can't think of what it is,

any ideas ?

Does it just dispaly the error and you click ok and y ou can procede? Or does it just keep you there any ou can't do anythign? If it's from the Lenx printer, maybe you could download the software from the Lenx website, and see if that makes the error go away. If it does, then try removing the program from control panel.

click ok and it goes away and the system continues to run fine, owner wants that error to go away.
I will try that and see if the install goes good then uninstall .
hopefully that will work, if I don't need the printer connected to do it.
the printer is over 100 miles from here.

Yeah I'm not sure if you'll need the printer. Let usknow how it goes.
...i just noticed, i may have helped an original pcmech user out. horray for me. if it doesn't work then ill feel stupid though...haha..

Hey bailey, did you run msconfig and look for anything under the Startup tab that might be trying to load the unexisting program? Might just be an entry in there.

also, control panel-->administrative tool--> services, make sure there are no printer related services trying to start at startup, if so disable them

well none of the above ideas worked nor did any good.
but today I learned something I did not know.
on all dell computers solf after the date of July 16, 2004.
there is a feature called Gell restore by Symantec.

at the dellsplash screen during boot up press thr control and F11 once.
and then the Dell Symantec window apears.

what this will do is format the hard drive removing everything and does a complete reinstall of the system so that it will be just as it was the day it was new, including the software.

well this worked great and all that was left to do is do all the updates for windows and install any software you want..

there must be on a hidden partition on the hard drive.
there was not even the requirement to reactivate with microsoft

anyway all fixed and the customer is very happy, and so am I.

I learned this after I downloaded the user manual and read it.

this is a great idea from dell, great support for there systems.

HP do the same thing, there is a separate recovery partition on the harddrive that will restore the system to day 1. The customer also has the option to make restore cd's from the partition as backup.

Well, sorry my idea didn't work for ya, bailey.....but at least you got it fixed, and that's all that matters. Interesting info you found about that too. I didn't know that either. Goes back to that saying "You learn something new every day" doesn't it? :)
